Louis Vuitton Sarah vs. Emilie Wallet

Louis Vuitton Sarah Wallet

I don’t know about you all but when I am in a designer boutique I always felt a little bad about pulling a super well worn Kate Spade wallet out of my Fendi 2Jours. Not that the Kate Spade wallet was a bad wallet per say, but after four years it was time for an upgrade.

If you’re like me choosing a wallet is a difficult process. I knew I wanted a Louis Vuitton, given how long the canvas lasts, but there are SO many options!

My biggest criteria for choosing a new wallet was that I wanted a snap closure. While the Louis Vuitton Zippy wallet is loved my many, I knew from my Kate Spade how annoying cards and receipts getting caught in the zipper can be. Looking at the Louis Vuitton website there are over twelve full size snap closure wallets. The most popular of these include the Josephine, Jeanne, Emilie, & the one I ended up with, The Sarah.

Louis Vuitton Josephine
  • 7.5 x 3.7 x 0.4 inches
  • 4 card slots on the bottom inside flap of the wallet
  • Opens Flat, with a removable zip pocket, three compartments total, the furthest back of which goes all the way down the length of the wallet
  • Pros: I guess if you like wallets that open flat that is a pro (personally I do not), the removable inner pouch is nice
  • Cons: No room for fitting a phone, passport, etc., button is made of leather and tends to have color wear, only 4 card slots

Louis Vuitton Jeanne
  • 7.5 x 4.3 x 0.4 inches
  • 7 total card slots– 6 card slots on the inside back of the wallet, 3 card slots in the card case
  • Pouch design with one back pocket, one slot that fits the included removable card case, one removable zip pouch with money pocket
  • Pros: Very practical, the removable pouch and card case can be used alone- and it is always great to have a card case! You can also sell the pouch & card case separately on consignment websites.
  • Cons: Some reviews talk about how you may loose the interior pouch or card case given that you are likely going to be taking the card case out of the wallet to get your I.D., etc. I also find this wallet very long and narrow at the bottom, which means a bulky phone may not fit in the wallet.

Louis Vuitton Emilie
  • 7.7 x 3.9 x 0.6 inches
  • 4 card slots on the front face of the wallet
  • One large compartment with a money sized slot in the back of the wallet, and a zip pocket in the front
  • Pros: Very minimal- perfect for someone with few cards, the inside pocket can fit an American passport, or iPhone X, but not both at the same time.
  • Cons: Very minimal- only 4 card slots!!, the wallet can not fit both a passport & iPhone X, the front button is leather and can have very bad wear, the zipper is also leather and can be damadged over time

Louis Vuitton Sarah
  • 7.5 x 4.1 x 1 inches
  • 16 card slots!!
  • Pictured below is the newer version of the Louis Vuitton Sarah, which features an envelope style flap and a back pocket. Beyond the 16 card slots (don’t know about you but I have a lot of cards) there is a zip compartment that separates two larger compartments. There are also two additional pockets for money inside the wallet. The organization possibilities are endless!
  • Pros: Fits SO much! It is a very hardy wallet with a metal snap closure and zipper which means they will not wear with use, the newer envelope style design also means it looks chic carried as a clutch.
  • Cons: Some people find this wallet bulky. The back pocket also has the tendency to curl with use as the canvas stretches. Note the older version of this wallet does not have the back pocket.

Given the differences of these four classic Louis Vuitton snap wallets I focused my search in on the Louis Vuitton Emilie and Sarah wallet.
So what fits in each wallet?

An American passport fits in both wallets!

The iPhone X fits quite well in the Emilie wallet, which only has one large pouch. My iPhone X also has a pretty thick case and a PopSockets phone grip.

The iPhone X fits super well in the Sarah Wallet. I can actually fit my iPhone and close it even with all my cards, coins, and cash inside, which makes it a perfect clutch.

The last thing I really wanted to see when looking at these wallets was if my iPhone X AND passport would fit inside the wallets at the same time. The Louis Vuitton Emilie would not close with both my phone & passport inside. The Sarah Wallet fully closed with both my passport & phone inside which is why I went with the Sarah Wallet!

While I went with the Louis Vuitton Sarah, both are great wallets…
So what should you pay for these wallets used?

Louis Vuitton Emilie

  • Full Price New: $480
  • High Priced Used: $475-450 (Many people seem to buy this wallet and sell it right away, so if you are seeing this price the wallet needs to be in perfect shape.)
  • Average Price Used: $425 dead average (I am not sure why the average price for a wallet that tends to wear is so high, but you will see a lot of used Emilie wallets priced around $425- BUT personally I would pay no higher than $350 for a used Louis Vuitton Emilie Wallet)
  • Low Price Used: $300 (Most wallets at the price are in not great condition given the tendency for the button to wear,  but you may get lucky and find one in good condition that has been monogramed at this price.)

Louis Vuitton Sarah in Canvas

  • Full Price New: $700
  • High Priced Used: $600 (Should be in very good condition and should not be monogramed at this price)
  • Average Price Used: $500 dead average (The average price of a used Sarah Wallet in Canvas. I would pay no higher than $500 for a Louis Vuitton Sarah Wallet in Canvas.)
  • Low Price Used: $400 (I paid $405 before tax on Fashionphile for a used Louis Vuitton Sarah wallet in very good condition, including the box and dust bag, BUT it did have hot stamped initials. If you see the Sarah wallet at this price without the monograming it may be in not so great condition OR it may be the older version of the Louis Vuitton Sarah which has a straight front flap vs. the updated triangular flap.)

Happy Hunting!

Hi! Thanks for the super informative post. Do you happen to have a larger phone to try in the Sarah? I have a 12 pro max and I really want to know if it will fit in the Sarah wallet. Thanks so much!
