Bags to Covet: The Fendi By The Way
I find the Fendi By The Way bag to be incredibly underrated– it is beyond chic, functional, and has the same amazing quality all Fendi bags have.
Initially released in 2014 the By The Way has become a staple in Fendi’s line of bags, although we have not seen it on Fendi’s runway in recent collections. The bag comes in a variety of materials & colors, the classic being Black & Turtledove. Two distinct designs of this boston style bag include a alligator tail, and a wide variety of color blocked versions.
The Fendi By The Way also now comes in two sizes- Small & Medium. At one time they did make a mini Fendi By The Way but I would recommend leaving that in the past along with the mini bag trend of 2016. Both bags have a center zip compartment which helps to keep the bag from loosing its shape.
Fendi By The Way Sizes now include:
- Small– 1.2 Lbs, 10”W x 6″H x 5″D with a 13″ – 18” convertible strap drop
- Large/Medium– 1.8 Lbs, 12 ½”W x 17″H x 6”D with a 12 ½″ – 17½″ convertible strap drop
I have visited this in store bag many times and have also seen excellent prices on used Fendi By The Ways online! So why haven’t I pulled the trigger yet? I am looking for a small Fendi By The Way in Turtledove! One of my tips for buying used designer bags is to know your style- and since I have not found the exact style I want, I am still on the hunt.
Small Fendi By The Way
- What it fits: All my essentials including a filled Baggu pouch as seen in my review of the Chloe Faye Bag, a wallet, phone and sunglass case
- Pros: Lightweight!! SO light, chic, can be carried four ways– as a clutch, with the top straps, on the shoulder with the long strap or cross body if you are okay with a shorter cross body (which I am!)
- Cons: The small black really looks like a small doctor’s bag
Medium Fendi By The Way
- What it fits: Just like the small the Medium Fendi By The Way fits all my essentials including a Baggu pouch as seen in my review of the Chloe Faye Bag, a wallet, phone, sunglass case PLUS room for a small water bottle or light cardigan or scarf
- Pros: Also lightweight, but not as light as the small, fits a lot more than you would expect, can be carried three ways- with the top straps, on the shoulder with the long strap or crossbody, again as a shorter crossbody
- Cons: The medium tends to dimple and loose it’s shape much faster than the small
So what should you be paying for this bag? Note that the used price does not differ between the small & medium sizes. Prices do differ based on color, and material.
Fendi By The Way – Medium OR Small
- Small Full Price New: $1,700
- Medium Full Price New: $1,850
- High Priced Used: $1,300 high average If you are buying a fur Fendi By The Way, one from a recent collection, or one new with tags, or even a black or turtledove colored bag you may expect to pay around 1.3k. Personally I would not pay this as the Fendi By The Way go on sale at department stores with some regularity.
- Average Price Used: $995 dead average Similar to the Chloe Faye the average price of a used Fendi By The Way is around $1K, and generally come in a variety of colors and conditions. I would pay no higher than $900 for a Fendi By The Way
- Low Price Used: $600 average low end Think crazy colors like yellow, or bags that are well worn
So I am still on the hunt! Once I find my perfect Small Fendi By The Way in Turtledove I will be sure to post a full review.
