Bags to Covet: Chloe Faye & Chloe Faye Day
The original Chole Faye was first introduced in Chloe’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection and was an instant hit.
With it’s 70’s inspired feel the bag now comes in a variety of sizes and colors. Most commonly the bag’s top flap is made of suede while the body and strap is made of leather, however they have done versions of the bag in full leather in both embossed and smooth variations.
The classic Faye bag currently comes in three sizes:
- Mini– 0.6 Lbs, 7″W x 4″H x 1″D with a 21 ½” – 23 ½” convertible strap drop
- Small– 1.4 Lbs, 9 ¼”W x 6″H x 3 ¼ with a 20″ – 22 ½”D convertible strap drop
- Standard/Medium– 2.6 Lbs, 12 ½”W x 10″H x 1 ½”D with a 12″ – 19″ convertible strap drop
The Chloe Faye is coooool and photographs really well BUT I personally do not find my prefered Medium size very user friendly. The problem I have with the bag is the accordion style interior is not very accommodating to anything of any width. Since I transfer bags a lot I use a Baggu Pouch to hold all my essential items (i.e., lipstick, powder, lotion, medication, etc.). This standard Chloe Faye was not able to accommodate the pouch without looking bulky and odd.
Enter the Chloe Faye Day! A perfect mix between the coolness factor of the Chloe Faye and the usability of a satchel.
I had the pleasure of visiting the medium Chloe Faye Day bag at Barneys in Union Square here in San Francisco. The color was Airy; a light blue grey. Let me just say it- I am in love (though I want the tobacco color).
I am always a fan of bags you can carry many different ways, and this bag checks all those boxes– you can hold the top strap with your hand, on the crook of the arm, or on your shoulder, and you can wear the long strap on the shoulder or cross body. Another benefit of the Chloe Faye Day versus the classic Chloe Faye is this bag only has suede lining the interior zips of the bag, meaning you don’t have to worry about the bag quickly looking worn in.
To me the best part of this bag is how versatile it is and how much it can fit! Below is a comparison of the classic Chloe Faye and the Chloe Faye Day with my trusty Baggu pouch inside- as you can see the classic Faye was never going to fit the pouch!
As a final comparison- just because both bags are so fabulous, I tried on the Classic Chloe Faye in Medium along with the Chloe Faye Day.
Chloe Faye Medium
- Pros: Classic, photographs WELL, magnetic closure is super easy to open, comfortable shoulder strap
- Cons: NARROW (see photos above of how bulky it can look when filled), wearing it as a crossbody is not totally comfortable
Chloe Faye Day Medium
- Pros: SO many ways to carry, roomy, chic satchel take on the classic Chloe Faye bag
- Cons: the magnetic closure has a snap feature which makes it harder to open, the top handle can make the front flap sag a bit (see photo below)
Okay so both bags are beautiful SO what should you pay for them used??
Chloe Faye – Medium
- Full Price New: $1,950
- High Priced Used: $1,245 average (think key colors like black & brown, and bags priced at this price should be in perfect condition)
- Average Price Used: $1,000 dead average (the average price of a used Chloe Faye in medium is around $1K. Bags priced at this price point can be seen in a variety of colors and conditions. I would pay no higher than $1,000 for the Chloe Faye)
- Low Price Used: $800 (yes I have seen Chloe Fayes in fair condition priced around $800! If you are no rush to purchase, and are okay with a fun color it can be done)
Chloe Day Faye – Medium
*Price guide updated May 12th 2019 for newly accurate prices
- Full Price New: $1,950 (United States price!)
- Full Price New: $1,655 (European price, VAT excluded!)
- Average Used Price: $1000 (When bags are first released, like the Chloe Faye Day, it is quite hard to find a good price on a used bag. Now that this bag has been out for a while and has not gained a high level of popularity it is very easy to find this bag for ~1k used!)
So what bag will I get??? Time will tell, but right now the classic Chloe Faye is a much better price than the satchel style Chloe Faye Day. I will post a review once I purchase one of these bags.
